Islanders Roundup Renegades

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – Jarmar Julien returned to the Islander’s line-up, after sitting out the first two games with a quad injury, but Ngumezi Obioma stole the show in a 46-0 Islander’s victory.
For the second straight game the Islander defense shut out their opponent “the black-out D is back,” said, defensive tackle, Cisco Lutu.
Lutu was the Islanders defensive player of the game. He was able to apply constant pressure on the quarterback and record two sacks.
Early on in the game the defense did not have to do much because they kept getting the ball back for their offense. The Renegades fumbled the ball on their first possession, and linebacker Chauncey Ako ran it back for a touchdown, his second touchdown on a fumble recovery in the last two weeks.
While returning the ensuing kickoff the Renegade returner ran away from the ball like it was a punt, and the Islanders recovered the live ball.
This trend would continue on the next kickoff when the returner muffed the kick, but luckily for Reedley they were able to recover the ball.

Early on the Islander offense had no problem moving the ball. Julien pounded his way through the defense on the Islanders’ first play for a gain of 23 yards. Julien finished the night with 58 yards on seven carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry and two touchdowns. Julien left the game early along with the rest of the stars on the offense.
Quarterback Jason Piccolotti, only played one quarter but was able to do a ton of damage passing five-for-seven, with 127 yards and two touchdowns.
On one of those passes he hurled the ball 30 yards where Obioma caught it at the 50, Obioma then” broke the defenders ankles” and dashed down the middle of the field into the end zone, completing the 80 yard play.
After Piccolotti left at the end of the first quarter, Obioma’s production did not stop. Quarterback Dion Pickett’s first pass of the game was a 53 yard bomb to Obioma which ended up being just two yards short of the goal line. Obioma had four receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Obioma was named offensive player of the game.
Surrell Davis took home the honors of being the special team’s player of the game. Davis recorded five tackles including some on defense. Davis says he played better on special teams then on defense because the linebackers and the line did such a good job getting to the ball carrier the defensive backs did not have a chance to do anything.
Like most coaches Jack Burgett did not fail to see the flaws in his teams play. “I was terribly disappointed with the penalties,” Burgett said. On a lighter note, “From a playing standpoint I thought the defense once again was totally awesome,” Burgett said.
