Islanders handle Giants 31-0, improve to 4-0

San Francisco, Ca. - The size and speed of the Islanders proved to be too much for the Golden State Giants and the Islanders won easily, 31-0.

The Islanders got some tough runs from running back Corky Lindsey, who finished with 95 yards and a touchdown. The passing attack showed some signs of life with quarterbacks Jimmy Collins and John Manville combining 11-21 for 217 yards and two touchdowns.

Leading the receiving corps were Donyell Crain, four for 60 yards, and Cecil Elekewachi, one catch for 77 yards and a touchdown and Joseph Munn, three for 38 and a touchdown. Munn also handled the kicking duties, making four extra points and a 38-yard field goal. Munn was named offensive player of the game for his efforts.

Defensively, the Islanders were dominant. They harassed the Giant quarterbacks all day, sacking them eight times. four by Anthony Edwards who leads the league with 12 sacks in four games.

The defensive line of Sam Iosia, Percey Robinson, Frisco Leaa, Lance and Lawrence Mitchell and Edwards proved impossible for the Giants' offense to penetrate. Linebacker Randy Simms had four tackles and a sack and Safety Eric Hubbard had four tackles. Calvin Edwards, and Anthony Bias each recovered a fumble, while defensive back Jermaine Hargraves snared his third interception of the year. The Islander defense held the Giants to negative yardage on the day and posted their first shutout of the season. Iosia was named defensive player of the game for his play in the trenches.

The Islanders have a 4-0 record and will travel to Santa Rosa Saturday to meet the Minor League Football national defending champion North Bay Rattlers. The Rattlers' only blemish last year came at the hands of the Islanders. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at Ellsie Allen High School in Santa Rosa..
